HORTICULTURAL TESTS

SUBJECTS FOR EXAMINATION (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Friday The following members were present at a meeting of the Examining Board of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, held in Wellington recently:—Professor H. B. Kirk (chairman), Messrs F. S. Pope, W. C. Hyde, E. Hutt, T. S. Waugh, G. V. Wild and G. S. Nicoll (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs W. K. Dallas and B. P. Mansfield (Southland). It was agreed that the Education Department’s subjects for the junior examination in horticulture should now be Chemistry and General Experimental Science. The resignation of Mr T. D. Lennie, convener of Christchurch examinations for 12 years, was accepted with an expression of regret and the keenest appreciation of his services. The Canterbury District Council was congratulated on its excellent programme for 1940 of lectures at the Christchurch Technical College on horticulture, covering the course for the Institute's Diploma Examination, and which is also open to nursery apprentices, journeymen, gardeners and interested amateurs. It was decided to recommend similar

action to other district councils. Action on educational remits, passed at the recent annual conference, was noted. Results of the annual examination were completed and a vote of thanks was passed to all examiners, conveners and supervisors.
