MEMBERS JOIN ARMY CITY CLUB PROSPECTS FOR NEW SEASON In his annual report to the members of the City Football Club at the annual meeting, the secretary, Mr R. L. Hooper, mentioned that 23 members of the club were serving with various branches of the New Zealand fighting forces. A further ten had joined and were waiting to be called up. The president, Mr F. Jones, presided over an enthusiastic attendance of 75 members. The prospects for the new season were favourably commented upon. The president remarked upon the fine manner in which the players oi the club had conducted themselves during last season, and stressed that the winning of any game was only incidental to the ideals of sportsmanship. He congratulated the senior team in winning the Waikato Stag Trophy and the Sage Memorial Cup in their first year in the senior grade. The annual report and balancesheet, which showed the club to be in a sound financial position, were adopted. Gerrish, J. Trotter, J. Findlater, R. Cox, A. Dean, A. Hubbard, P. McMahon. Royal New Zealand Air Force.— B. Harder, R. Porter. Those who have enlisted for the third echelon include.—R. Kirby, D. Young, O. Hunter, D. Mcßeth, W. Haora, D. Hunter, G. Hopkins and J. McKinnon. Election of Officers The following officers were elected:— j Patrons.—Messrs C. Christie, senior and R. Pike; president, Mr W» i Timms; vice-presidents, twenty elected; secretary, Mr R. L. Hooper; assistant secretary, Mr D. Cann; club captain, Mr R. Jones; delegate to junior advisory board, Mr J. Harder; delegates to Hamilton Rugby Union, Messrs F. Buckingham, J. Harder and R. Hooper; delegate to management committee, Mr F. Buckingham; club coaches, senior, Mr R. Hooper; junior, Mr J. Harder; management committee, Messrs R. Moran, D. Cann, R. Jones, J. Harder, G. Hopcroft, R. Johnston, C. Spiro, PMcDevitt, H. Brant, O. Dean, G. Morris and H. Smith. Several new members, were elected and the prospects of the club entering teams in all grades were stated to be bright. CAMBRIDGE SUB-UNION (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Friday A meeting of the Cambridge Rugby management committee was held on Thursday night when, in the absence of the president, Mr A. A. Moore presided. The union’s books were approved for audit. It was decided that the annual meeting be held on Thursday next. The committee decided to recommend to the annual meeting that one senior team be entered in the Stag competition, and that every endeavour be made to organise a strong junior, third and fourth grades. This recommendation was carried by 5 votes to 2.
A further recommendation was that in view of the reduced gates and the prospects for the coming season that every step should be taken to economise on ground and gate labour and in other directions. j
