AIR SERVICE
TO NEW ZEALAND DELAY IN UNITED STATES RIVALRY OYER ROUTE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 8. 3.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 7 The Civil Aeronautics Authority has reached a decision that the New Zealand air service shall be delayed at least until the public hearing on March 14 of the Los Angeles city’s complaint against the proposed route. Los Angeles wishes the planes to touch the city, although the proposed United States terminal is near San Francisco. Civic pride and port rivalries are involved. Los Angeles is seeking to revise the official examiner’s report, on approval of which the final authorisation will be given Pan-American Airways to start the service. The report disapproved of the route passing through Los Angeles, because it considered it unnecessary to maintain terminal facilities in view of the hourly airway connections with San Francisco. On February 7 it was stated that officials of Pan American Airways had announced that the civil aeronautical authority’s trial examiner had recommended granting permission for the resumption of the San Francisco-New Zealand service. The service, however, awaited the authority’s approval and then that of President Roosevelt. The service will at first be fortnightly and then weekly. Flying-boats with accommodation for 72 passengers will be used.
