TURKEY READY
LAST DAY OF PREPARATION “CRISIS AT OUR DOOR” RELATIONS WITH SOVIET (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) ISTANBUL, Feb. 29 The Foreign Minister, broadcasting, said:— “I speak to you on the last day of our preparations. Turkey has prepared intensively for twelve months and is ready for whatever comes. We have spent £30,000,000 on the Army in the past year, and that is not the full extent of our preparations. “Nevertheless, the application of the emergency law does not mean that Turkey is preparing for war against Russiq. Turkey will enter into war only when our national interests and existence are vitally threatened. Our relations with Russia have not changed during the past six months. We do not wish to move against the Soviet and see no reason for the Soviet to attack us. “The crisis which has covered a large part of the world is now at our door, but our participation and foreign policy will not be influenced by outside combinations.”
