£IOO,OOO APPEAL

MORRINSVILLE ORGANISATION (Special to Time*) MORRINSVILLE, Thursday A well-attended public meeting convened by the Mayor, Mr W. Hetherington, was held in the municipal chambers on Wednesday evening. The object was to organise an appeal in the Morrinsville district in aid of the £IOO,OOO fund campaign under the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army. As the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army have no organisation in Morrinsville, the ministers of the various churches have been asked to give their aid. The following churches were represented at the meeting:— Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and Roman Catholic. All signified their willingness to help in the organisation. Other bodies represented were the Morrinsville Returned Soldiers’ Association, Chamber of Commerce, Morrinsville Farmers’ Union, Methodist Ladies’ Guild and the Oddfellows’ Lodge. It was decided to take up a street collection on Thursday, March 21. Also a house-to-house canvass will be made in aid of the fund. The following committees were elected to organise the work:— Ladies’ committee: The Mayoress, Mrs W. Hetherington, Mesdames W. Hogg, W. Butler, L. Buchan, E. W. Parr, L. Cannon; executive, Rev. J. L. Mitchell (chairman), Methodist Church, Rev. G. A. Naylor (Presbyterian Church), Rev. E. T. Jones (Baptist Church), Rev. Father O’Douherty (Roman Catholic), Messrs W. Mcrrice, R. Hutchman, H. Drower, W. McPherson (secretary), iC. Skett, W. Taverner. 1 The Church of England is under- : taking the raising of a fund to help ! any of its members who have enlisted. Although it in no way competes with the £IOO,OOO campaign, the funds will be used for the same purpose, irrespective of creed. A comprehensive programme of novelty sporting events for both children and adults, folk dancing and items by the Hamilton Citizens’ Band j will be provided at the annual fete c f the Hamilton West School, to be held in the school grounds on Saturday. A display of trick riding will I be given by three cyclists, while ' there will be the usual stalls. In the | event of wet weather a programme will be provided indoors.
