BERMUDA OMITTED
CLIPPER AIR SERVICES AVOID INSPECTION OF MAILS STORM OF PROTEST (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 26, 3.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 25 Pan-American Airways announced that after March 15 it expects to omit Bermuda in trans-Atlantic flights to Europe. Pan-American Airways explained that the placing of two vessels in mid-Atlantic to furnish weather reports has enabled the elimination of Bermuda. The announcement did not mention the British inspection of United States mails at Bermuda, which caused a storm of protest, but it is assumed that this was an important factor in the decision.
After March 15 the Clippers will leave in the middle of the afternoon instead of early in the morning, affording a five-hour saving in the transit time, which will permit of arrival in Europe the following afternoon at the customary time. Disclaimer by America
The Washington correspondent of the United Press says official quarters desclaimed any knowledge of Pan-American Airways’ action and insisted that ihe company had reached its decision on its own responsibility.
