DESTROYER SUNK LOSS OF H.M.S. DARING FIVE MEN PICKED UP (United Press Aten.— glee. Tel. Copyright) LONDON. Feb. 19 The Admiralty announces that the destroyer Daring has been torpedoed and sank. One officer and four ratings have been picked up, but nine officers and 148 ratings are missing and feared lost. Among the missing is the captain of the Daring, Commander 6. A. Cooper. The Daring was one of eight destroyers of the Defender class, of 1375 tons, armed with four 4.7in. guns, six smaller guns, and eight torpedo tubes. She is the sixth destroyer to have been lost during the war, the Blanche, Grenville. Gipsy and Exmouth having been blown up either by mine or torpedo, and the Duchess lost through a collision. Almost Cut in Half Captain S. Miles, with his 10,000lon tanker almost cut in half by a torpedo explosion, and half-sub-merged, sailed her for four days in the North Sea until a warship landed him and 41 otner survivors of the crew of 44 at a Scottish port. German Freighters Captured The British Navy has captured and sent into port two of six German ships which tried to make a dash to Germany from Vigo Spain—namely, the Morca, of 1927 ions, and the Rostock, of 2542 tons. The Morea had a cargo of manganese ore. She w’as brought to a West of England port and her crew of 30 were interned. U-Boat Sunk A French destroyer is reported to have sunk another German aubmarine. The U-boat was being supplied by a trawler and the destroyer lay tn wait for it. When the U-boat appeared the French ship attacked. Ten shots were fired and the submarine was sunk. The traw'ler also was sunk. Help For Dependants The Admiralty announces that the Maharaja of Gondal has most generously placed one lakh of rupees (£7500) at the disposal of the Admiralty for the benefit of dependants of those who lost their lives In the sinking of the battleship Royal Oak
