B GRADE BANDS
FIRST TEST SELECTION HAMILTON IN TOP THREE MUSIC FOUND DIFFICULT 'By TelesrapU.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The three top bands in the B grade first test concluded late last night at the Centennial Band Contests were Hamilton Citizens’, Wellington Boys’ Institute and Christchurch Municipal. That, according to the judge, Mr I Frank Wright, is not necessarily the order of merit. He said the bands found the selection “Spohrs” (Faust-Green wood) ! rather a hard nut to crack. It was very difficult for B grade bands, but 1 afforded scope to both soloists and those in the ranks, gave conductors an opportunity for imaginative treatment, enabling them to display their musicianship. Having regard to the difficult selection at least six bands gave creditable performances.
