FATAL SMASH

DRIVER KILLED WOMAN SERIOUSLY HURT CAR WRECKED BY TRAIN (By Telegrapn.—r.cas Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday A man was killed and a woman seriously injured when a motor car was struck by a local train on the level crossing on the PukekohePaerata Road at 10.20 this morning. The man was:— Mr John Boyd Marshall, of Graham’s Beach, Waiuku, aged about 60. The identity of the woman is not yet known. It is stated that neither the train nor the car was travelling at a fast pace. The smaller vehicle was carried a distance of 100 yards and leduced to a twisted mass of wreckage. The woman was thrown some distance from the point of impact, but Mr Marshall, who was driving, was taken from the wreckage of the car. He died ten minutes later. The injured woman was taken by ambulance to the Auckland Hospital.
