INDOOR FLYING

SPECIAL ATTRACTION AT CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION Perfectly finished models of aircraft will circle in four, five and six minute flights in the Assembly Hall at the Centennial Exhibition in the afternoons of December 27 and 28. These will be the flying tests arranged by the New Zealand Model Aeroplane Association, and will be a New Zealand championship for model-makers. The model aeroplane display opened on Monday, December 18 in the Motors and Transportation Court and here the models may be viewed until January 20. The flying tests will serve also as a demonstration of low-speed aerodynamics because this model is so designed that they fly at low speeds for several minutes. They are by no means toys, although their entertainment value is high, as they are scientific models based on well-tried formulae, from which valuable aeronautical data has been obtained. The leading model craftsmen in New Zealand have entries and the standard will be unusually high. There will be no charge for admission to see the flying tests, which have been arranged by the Exhibition authorities as a special attraction during Christmas week.

The results of the model judging for craftsmanship are:— Class I: Scale models built up.—R. Park, Wellington Model Aeroplane Club, “Piper Cub,” 1; L. Simonson, Wanganui Model- Aeroplane Club, “Stintson Reliant,” 2; L. Simonson, Wanganui Model Aeroplane Club,
