MORRINSVILLE
FAREWELL SOCIAL SOLDIERS HONOURED There was a gathering of 400 citizens of Morrinsville and surrounding districts on Saturday night in the Physical Culture Hall to bid farewell to the soldiers of the district who are on final leave. Dancing and musical items were enjoyed, the arrangements being under the control of the Morrinsville Patriotic Committee. On behalf of the citizens the Mayor, Mr Hetherington, presented each man with a small gift. Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P., addressing the men said he was in the position of not only farewelling Major Allen, the Member for Hauraki, but also had the task of looking after his electorate. He paid tribute to the men going on active service, and was certain they would uphold the honour of New Zealand.
Mr R. Hitchman spoke on behalf of the Morrinsville Returned Soldiers’ Association and Mr W. C. Kennedy for the Piako County Council. Major Allen suitably replied.
