GOOD RECOVERY AUCKLAND PLAY WELLINGTON SALE MAKES GOOD STAND (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Neither Wellington nor Auckland reproduced batting form in their first innings of the Plunket Shield match which was commenced on the Basin Reserve on Saturday and continued today, and small totals were the order of the day. Auckland batted first for 134 and Wellington could do no better than 164. Auckland, in its second strike, thanks largely to a second-wicket partnership by Sale and Pearson, did much better and had 254 on the board for nine wickets at stumps. BETTER SCORING CANTERBURY IN LEAD MATCH WITH OTAGO (3y Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday The scoring in the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Otago was much better. Canterbury batted first and scored 374, M. P. Donnelly scoring the first century of the series. Otago replied with 249 and Canterbury, in its second strike, had scored 36 for two wickets at stumps.
