PLUNGE INTO RIVER THIRTEEN PEOPLE MISSING EXPLOSION IN FRANCE (Received Dec. 23, 3.15 p.m.) PARIS, Dec. 22 The Bridge of St. Louis, linking St. Louis and an island in the river Seine, collapsed, and a number of cars and pedestrians plunged into the river. The bridge disappeared. Seven people were recovered from the river. Two later succumbed. Thirteen are missing.

The collapse was due to the impact of the steel barge Tunisie, the captain of which was seriously injured. Two broken gas pipes caused an explosion.
