SAFETY ON ROADS

HON R. SEMPLE’S APPEAL (By TelegT&ph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday An appeal for care on the roads ! during the Christmas holidays was issued by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to-day. Mr Semple said during the next 10 days I traffic was expected to be the heaviI est recorded in New Zealand. Last i Christmas 15 persons were killed and 1340 injured on the roads. Unless j much greater care was taken this I Christmas the accident toll would be 1 much greater. The Minister said that New' Zealand had the lowest accident rate per 10,000 vehicles of any country in the world, but this did not mean that the position in the Dominion could not be greatly improved. It was up to everyone to do everything possible to improve it.
