GAIN OF £341,705 OPERATIONS OVER 32 WEEKS PROFIT OF £249.000 SHOWN A gain of £341,705 for the 32 weeks of the railway year to November 11, compared with the corresponding portion of last year is shown by the latest accounts to appear. A working profit of £249,184 compares with a net deficit of £92,521 at the equivalent date in 1938. For the four-weekly period to November 11, there was a profit of £57.245. compared with a loss of £12,152 for the corresponding period last year. The railway working account for the four weeks shows the gross receipts to have been £735,028, an increase of £87,446 on the figure last year. Expenses at £677,783 were £18,049 higher. " Earnings by the North Island railways were £402,716, an increase of £66,058, and expenses were £359,689. or £9055 higher. There was a profit of £43,027 compared with a loss of £14,516. Receipts from the South Island railways were £233,720, an increase of £22,415, and expenses were £241,421, or £9434 higher. There was a working loss of £7701 compared with a loss of £20,682. Miscellaneous revenue amounted to £98,592 and expenditure to £76,673, there being a net yield of £21,919, or £1127 less than last year. From April 1 to November 11 there was a net profit of £249,184 compared with a deficit of £92,521 last year. The gross revenue was £5,752.758, an 1 increase of £549,065. The expenditure was £5,503,574 compared with £5.296,214, an increase of £207,360. Following is a summary of the net results for the corresponding periods of four weeks in the last
