TAURANGA’S CLIMATE
NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTION RETICULATION AT THE MOUNT The town clerk of Tauranga, Mr R. B. Shearman, with a natural desire to benefit his town, has delved into records to compare the climates ol other places with his own, and, one must admit, much to Tauranga’s advantage. He quotes Bernard Shaw as saying it is the finest seaside resort in the world. Mr Shearman takes from the Year Book figures which prove Tauranga to be the sunniest place in the Dominion. It can beat even “Sunny Nelson,” which had in 1936, 2279 hours of sunshine as against Tauranga’s 2437 hours. Auckland’s total is 2234 hours. As regards temperature the same authority states that the mean summer temperature at Tauranga was 60 degrees in 1936, the winter recording being 50 degrees. Bathing: Facilities There are 25 miles of harbour and oceajj beaches, surely enough to accommodate all the pleasure seakers of the North Island. Realising this, the people of this favourable town have set themselves out to provide accommodation for all. At Mt. Maunganui, popularly referred to as “The Mount,” there is great activity, people having in mind that over 10,000 visitors were accommodated last summer. New shops, garages, cabins, tea shops and camp sites are ready for use. A study of the advertisements on this page will give some idea of the progress being made. The great charm of The Mount is the shelter and the facility with which the sea beaches can be reached. Through the settlement a wide bitumen surface and cross roads lead to the surf or the more peaceful harbour sands. Sporting Amenities -The town water supply is now laid on at the beach, doing away with the w— ry of tanks. Tennis courts, golf Cv™.se and bowling greens are a few of the amenities provided for sports at tms popular 'oeach. The road from the Waikato has been improved beyond recognition especially over the Kaimai Hills where most of the corners have been widened and the very bad ones eliminated. The motorist need have no fear about a trip to Tauranga this holiday as not only is the road in really good order, but the catering for accommodation, meals, and recreation is of a very high standard. Have a good holiday this year—have it at Tauranga.
