SEED CERTIFICATION
ABANDONMENT QUESTION RETENTION URGED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday There is every possibility that the Department of Agriculture will not proceed with its plans for abandoning as an economy measure the certification of seed wheat. The matter is of vital interest to farmers and millers, as certification guarantees quality and yield. This morning members of the Wheat Committee and South Canterbury growers met the Director of the Field Division, Mr R. B. Tennent, and told him that to stop certification would be a retrograde step. Mr Tennent replied that he would discuss the situation with the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, on his return to Wellington, and felt confident that the request for continuing the scheme would meet with favourable consideration.
