DECREASE IN IMPORTS NINE MONTHS’ FIGURES (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Saturday According to statistics supplied by the Customs Department the value of vehicles imported into the Dominion up to September 30 was £4,070,449, representing a decrease of £456,464 on the total of £4,526,913 to the same date last year. . In the nine months under review Auckland imported 3148 vehicles, valued at £528,716, compared with 3924, worth £642,859, last year. There were 2851 cars, estimated at £465,040. Vehicles imported from all sources numbered 24,432, against 28,288 during the corresponding period of last year. There were 20,909 motor-cars and 3523 commercial vehicles, the totals a year ago being 23,849 and 4439 respectively. The vehicles included those assembled, unassembled or completely knocked down. Car importations averaged 2323 a month, as against 2649 over the same period last year. The total valuation of car imports was £3,443,497, showing a decrease of £308,524 on the £3,752,021 total last year. The major portion of the cars came from Britain, while Canada was the principal supplier of commercial vehicles.
