ROSE SHOW
HAMILTON EXHIBITION FIXTURE NEXT WEEK It is many years since a rose show has been held in Hamilton. The Hamilton Horticultural Society, however, realises that with the numerous growers in the town and district a special show for roses should be held at a time when they should be at their best. In the past, owing to the difficulty of obtaining a suitable hall, the roses have been included in the summer show, but the dates available have been too late for the best blooms. However, the difficulty has now been overcome and the Winter Show Hall has been secured for a rose show to be held on Thursday,'November 9, the entries closing on the previous Tuesday at 5 p.m. Good Range of Classes In drawing up the schedule provision has been made for a good range of amateur and novice classes, so exhibitors should have no difficulty in finding a class suitable to their individual needs. The principal feature of the show will be the Douglas Cup competition for 12 blooms, distinct varieties, one of each. The cup is at present held by Mr H. H. Bennett, of Te Kowhai. Mr Bennett has won this cup for several years in succession, but this year is standing down and will not .compete. However, he is staging for exhibition only 500 blooms, and this alone should make a wonderful display. Special decorative classes have been arranged featuring the combination of roses, and provision has also been made for vases of cut flowers. Copies of the schedule may be obtained from the leading florists in Hamilton or from the secretary.
