GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS

The Ohinemuri Jockey Club's spring meeting will open at Paeroa on Saturday and conclude on the Monday. Both FaU Both of Mr R. T. Reid's representatives, Olympus and Beau Repaire, failed in their engagements at Rosehill on Saturday. Trainer's Success The Awapuni trainer, L. G. Morris, experienced a run of success at the Marton meeting on Saturday, when his representatives, Taitama, Wings of Song and Hunting Lore won the first three races on the card. Princess Val Improved Princess Val has improved with recent racing and is likely to show form early. On Saturday morning she hit out solidly over seven furlongs, decisively accounting for Inver in 1.31 and cutting out the final halfmile in 51 l-ss. Good Progress Made Excellent progress is being made in the erection of the new loose boxes on a commodious site at Te Rapa and when completed should go a lohg way towards alleviating much of the congestion apparent, especially on race days. For Second Day Lady Bambury, who showed early speed in a division of the Trial Plate at Avondale, is to be reserved for the second day of the Ohinemuri meeting. Since running at Avondale she has progressed satisfactorily in her work. Recruit to Hurdling According to recent intentions Inquisitor is to be put to hurdling shortly. He was to have been given a trial in this department at Paeroa but apparently he was not considered sufficiently proficient as a jumper to tackle the obstacles just yet. Master Brierly Master Brierly has been shaping encouragingly at headquarters and with the firming of the tracks he may soon be seen to better advantage. He is to contest the Cup on the first day of the Ohinemuri meeting and is not without prospects of springing a surprise. Philcourt Philcourt, whose creditable fourth on the latter day of the Avondale meeting drew attention to his prospects in pending engagements, has been working in improved fashion at Takanini and is conceded a lightweight chance among the handicap division at Paeroa on opening day. On the Upgrade Ngawiri appears to be on the upgrade again and she will disappoint if she fails to show to advantage soon. She is to contest the hack sprint at Paeroa this week and a line through her showing in a trial with Young Paddon on Saturday morning suggests that she may prove one of the hardest to dispose of. Black Musk Black Musk was responsible for an encouraging performance in the Avondale Cup recently and although he failed to improve on that showing on the latter day of the Avondale meeting he may be seen to better advantage in the Poland Cup this week. With his ability to begin smartly Black Musk will be suited by the turning track and should be benefited by racing. Working Well Valmint should strip in splendid fettle for engagements at the Paeroa fixture. Since winning the Jellicoe Handicap in impressive fashion at the Pakuranga Hunt he has gone on the right way in his preparation and the other morning at Ellerslie an attractive gallop over a mile increased his circle of admirers for the Poland Cup this week.

Young: Paddon Young Paddon has been working in improved style on the tracks at Te Rapa over the past fortnight and the course of schooling allotted him of late appears to be showing beneficial results. He is an acceptor for the open sprint on the first day at Paeroa and, especially in the event of the going being on the holding side, he will have to be taken into account. Little Briton Little Briton has trained on the right way since his successful visit to the combined Hunts meeting at New Plymouth recently, where on the first day he scored a convincing success in the Hunt Club Cup and on the second accounted for all but Lady Jim. A. L. Seifert’s charge should strip in forward condition for pending engagements and will bear watching in the Maramarua Steeplechase this week. Llangollen Reappears Llangollen is due to make a reappearance among the sprinters at Paeroa and despite the fact that she has not raced since running second to Beaupartir in the Easter Handicap over five months ago and is giving away 211 b to Orate, she will not be at a discount on the machines. She races well fresh and it would be well to bear this in mind in the summing up of sprint prospects for the meeting. Seldom Looked Better Mon Acre, who seldom looked better than at present, is to contest the Ngatea Handicap on the first day of the Paeroa meeting and her brilliant effort over half-a-mile at Ellerslie the other morning suggests she may prove one of the hardest to dispose of. On the latter day of the Avondale meeting she was making up ground over the concluding stages of the President’s Handicap. Was Finishing On Among the likely improvers noted on the first day of the recent Avondale meeting was First Gold Money, who was noticably finishing on over the deciding stages of a division of the Trial Plate. Prior to the meeting the Captain Bunsby mare had been working attractively on the tracks and with the benefit derived from racing at Avondale she should prove equal to a solid effort among the maiden talent engaged at the approaching Ohinemuri Club’s fixture over the week-end. King Key’s Prospects The performances of King Rey at Avondale will ensure him a firm following in the Poland Cup this week and he is entitled to every consideration in the summing up of handicap prospects. On the first day he was finishing on to account for all but The Cardinal and Airam, while on the latter day of the gathering he again came home well to run uie favourite Sly Fox to three parts of a length. King Rey has obviously lost little of his speed on the flat and it will not be on the score of condition if he fails to show to advantage at Paeroa.
