Roberts stated that no further attempt would be made to train Defaulter this spring and he will be sent back to New Zealand early next month and turned out for a long spell. The Herald says Beau Vite, by winning the Clarendon Stakes, and Gold Salute, by his striking success in the Rowley Mile, did impressive trials for their Derby engagements next Saturday. The manner in i which Beau Vite galloped as he -went past the post left no doubt about his ability to run the Derby j distance. Gold Salute’s victory was achieved with such ease that there I is no saying how good he is. Beau Vite looks the Derby winner ; with Gold Salute the hardest for him to beat.
