“THE WOMEN”

FILM VERSION OF SUCCESS “ SHADOW’ ” OF MAN WANTED The director of “ The Women ” at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was faced with the problem the other day of finding a male shadow which photographed ideally. The problem is not yet solved. When it is solved the lucky man will be awarded the shadow role of Stephen Haines, husband of Norma Shearer in the story. As you know, no man appears in “The Women,” although references tire made to various husbands, principally Stephen Haines. When the audition began to find Norma Shearer’s shadow husband, the candidates were placed before arc lights, which threw sharp, cleanlydefined shadows on the wall. The nice point to be decided is which of the shadows adequately suggests a husband such as Norma Shearer would have in such a story.
