BUOYANT MARKET

MORRINSVILLE SALE DAIRY CATTLE SELL FREELY KEEN COMPETITION FOR PIGS A buoyant market in all sections was experienced at the weekly Morrinsville stock sale yesterday when the yardings were small and the enquiry throughout was taken. There were no noticeable price changes, although in sorj.e cases the market was firmer than at Tuesday's Frankton sale. A light yarding of fat cattle contained some good pens of heifers which sold up to £ii 6s, this figure being secured for prime Shorthorn heifers. Lighter heifers were traded at from £7 10s to £9, while light steers met the market at from £8 to £•9 13s. From £7 to £8 was paid for good fat cows with lesser quality sorts selling from £3 to £*6 3s. Rates were unchanged for boners, while the offering of store cattle was keenly competed for. A steady demand resulted in dairy cattle prices remaining fully on a par with recent sales, choice heifers, including lines from Taranaki, making up tp £ll 10s. Cows and heifers of less quality were traded from £‘B to £9. Only a few pens of fat sheep were offered, and, considering the quality, I lie prices realised were very firm. Up to 28s was paid for the best of the wethers and good ewes made to 225. A strong enquiry was forthcoming for a limited entry of hoggets which sold j from 21s to 20s. The operations of farmers in search of light porkers suitable for fatlening had their effect in the fat pig section where values were slightly higher than at Frankton and the market, generally, was very firm. A good proportion of heavy prime haconcrs was included. Lop price for these being £4 3s. Lighter descriptions also cleared readily with prices ranging from 665. Competition for a fair yarding of porkers was animated and a complete clearance was effected at from 42s to 60s a head. The sale of store pigs was followed by a large bench of buyers and bidding was very brisk throughout. Large stores wore knocked down at from 37s 6d to 445, slips from 30s to 355, and weaners from 15s to 275.
