DAIRY SIRE VALUES COMBINED BREEDERS’ SALE TOP PRICE OF 60 GXS Maintaining the highly satisfactory values set on opening day, the annual bull fair of the Waikato Combined Breeders’ Association was continued in the selling pavilion at the Claudelands Show-grounds yesterday, when the balance of the Jersey entries were on offer. The market throughout was considerably better than had been generally anticipated, and vendors in the majority of cases had reason to be well satisfied with the prices realised. Yesterday’s top money was GO gns, 10 gns better than the best realisation on the opening day, while the more attractive entries generally sold from -5 to 38 gns, with the larger proportion of the entries selling above 20 gns. The sale was conducted by the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Co., Ltd., and Messrs Dalgety and Company. Ltd. Some 80 Jerseys were led into the ring yesterday and there were practically no passings. The sale was concluded today with the auction of Shorthorns, Friesians and Ayrshires. Good Quality of Entries The quality of the bulls as a whole was excellent and was reported upon favourably by the inspection committee, which comprised Messrs T. J. A. Whewell, W. C.‘Wallace, F. S. Veale, A. W. Green and the Inspector of Stock. The committee carried out a rigorous inspection and said that where entries were rejected this was mostly in the case of new vendors who were perhaps not so familiar with the rules of the sale. Y'esterday’s top price of 60 gns was obtained for an outstanding member of the consignment from the iO'torohanga breeder, Mr V. McD. Hitchings, who has topped the sale with his cattle during the last three years. The top-priced entry was a yearling, Windermere Ace K.C., by Ku Ku Ace Royal from Ridgway’s Golden Flower, a splendid young bull in every way and with excellent butterfat backing in both sides of his pedigree. The buyers were Messrs Costall Bros., of Waharoa. Mr Ben Moreland, of Cambridge, had an attractive line forward, his entries selling readily from 26 gns to 38 gns.
