ASSASSINATION BY NAZIS
RUMANIAN PRIME MINISTER KILLED WHEN DRIVING THROUGH STREETS StX ASSASSINS ARRESTED —TWO COMMIT SUICIDE The Prime Minister of Rumania, M. Armand Calinescu, has been assassinated by the Nazi-controlled Iron Guards. Fourteen bullets entered his body, four penetrating his heart. M. Calinescu, who was a warm friend of Great Britain, was driving through the streets of the capital when a cart pulled up in front of his car and the driver ordered it to stop. The assassins, after killing the Prime Minister, escaped and forced their way into the Bucharest radio station, where they broadcast the news of the Prime Minister’s assassination. It is stated that six of the assassins have been arrested and two are believed to have committed suicide. King Carol immediately summoned Cabinet and a new Prime Minister, opposed to the Iron Guards, has been appointed. Further investigations in the capital led to the discovery of documents addressed to Germans resident in Rumania instructing them what to do when German troops arrived on the Rumanian frontier-
