SMALL FARMS BILL
PASSING OF IVIEABURE STRONG EXCEPTION TAKEN NUMBER OF OTHER BILLLS (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Thursday Little of any interest occurred in the House of Representatives today, when consideration was given to measures listed on the Order Paper. All the afternoon and part of the evening sitting were occupied with further discussion on the Small Farms Amendment Bill, Opposition members taking strong exception to the clause which denies the right to establish settlers on small farm holdings to acquire the freehold of their properties. Amendments to delete the relevant section of this clause were defeated, and the Bill was passed. Consideration was also given to the Agricultural Emergency Regulations Confirmation Bill and the Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment Bill, which were both put through their remaining stages and passed. Two Local Bills, the Waikato Airport Bill and the Lower Clutha River Improvement Amendment Bill were also •passed. Additional clauses to the Local Legislation Bill were introduced by Governor-General’s message, and the House rose at i 0.30 p.m. till tomorrow.
