SOLDIERS OF TO-DAY

RECRUITS IN WAIKATO MEN WHO ANSWERED THE CALL NAMES OF ALL VOLUNTEERS “Have you enlisted?” That has been a frequent greeting among friends in Hamilton and other towns since the Government made its call for 6'600 volunteers for a special force for active service either at home or abroad during the war. The question is answered in this where the names of officers and - men of other ranks have been tabulated. These are the men who have offered their services willingly for the nation in a time of need and emergency. Sqme have already passed the severe medical test, others have yet to come before the medical boards, while some have by now been rejected as unfit for active service. It makes little difference from the point of view of sacrifice. Whether they will g-o into camp next month or not, they have offered themselves for service—a sacrifice which the nation is proud to honour. From All Walks Of Life These soldiers of to-day have been drawn from all walks of life, some from the professions, many are skilled tradesmen, others farmers, a number are miners, a few are mariners, others have seen service in the navy and are offering themselves as soldiers of the rank and file. Not a few are at present unemployed and quite a large number are married. Truly the nucleus of a civilian army ready for whatever may come their way. The nation salutes them, as it will honour those who will follow in the recruiting that is yet to come. Already historical as the list of the first volunteers in the No. 4 military area of the Northern Command, extending from Mercer in the north to Owhanga south of Taumarunui in the south, the names of the volunteers enlisted to date, are as follows: OFFICERS Artillery Major Eric Freeman Clayton-Greene.
