Mr P. G. Harkness, of Hamilton, is visiting Auckland. Mr S. S. Dean, of Wellington, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union, is in Hamilton. Messrs J. Johnston New Plymouth), G. A. Wilkes (Oamaru , G. A. Carron Auckland;, D. Johnston (Christchurch. 1 , C. Moffat, T. N. Smallwood (Wellington; and R. P. Sherri ft (Marton) are at the Hamilton Hotel. The Controller and Auditor-General, Mr F. J. Fowler, will retire at the end of this month, having completed 44 voars' service. Mr Fowler has spent I lie whole of his official career in the department. He succeeded the late Colonel Campbell in March, 1937.
