Rowe, who had saved £2O to pay for an operation and then had the notes destroyed in a fire, was referred to in the House of Representatives yesterday, when a favourable report of the Public Petitions Committee on her petition for compensation was presented. Mr W. A. Bodkin (Opposition —Central Otago) said the young woman had ail her personal effects destroyed when her father’s home was burned down. She had proved to the satisfaction of the committee that the notes were included in her loss, and had she been able to supply the numbers the bank would have made a refund.
