On February 5 the brutal murder of a prominent young woman and grave injuries to her brother stirred the northern districts of New South Wales. The dead woman was Miss Constance Sommerlad (36;. She kept house for her brother, Eric Sommerlad (26;, a farmer, four miles from renterfield. Miss Constance apparently was attacked with an axe while in bed, her head being terribly injured. Her brother was similarly assailed and was found unconscious. Miss Constance Sommerlad was a niece of Mr E. C. Sommerlad, a member of Parliament and manager of the Country Press Association, New South Wales.
