CHARGED WITH THEFT TWO YEARS’ PROBATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Eric Neville Hill, aged 27, was charged today with theft at Christchurch on August 13 by failing to account to J. T. Christie for £25, received as a deposit from a client on a car he had demonstrated for sale. Hill did not appear at work the following day nor did he inform his employer that lie had received the deposit. He was located later in Wellington. Counsel said the offence was committed more through insensate folly than criminal intent. Accused took too much liquor with a party of Australians and the next morning awoke in a strange hotel, and found he had lost his money. Unfortunately, he also lost his head and attempted to Hill was placed on probation for two years.
