CAMBRIDGE SUB=UNION
CUCKSEY CUP TROUBLE “RAFFERTY RULES’’ (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. At the weekly meeting of the Cambridge Rugby Sub-union on Monday night, the president, Mr D. Bourke, presided. It was decided to accept a senior representative game here next Saturday with Te Aroha and that the junior representatives travel to Te Aroha. The Morrinsville Sub-union is to be written to confirming September 2 as the date for a visit of their senior representatives to Cambridge. Managers for Saturday were appointed as follows Seniors, Mr C. G. Wallace; juniors, Mr A. Moore; third grade, Mr T. Beer. Trouble Over Cucksey Cup Arising out of a report by tiic manager of the third grade representative team to Taupiri last Saturday, the matter of the Cucksey Cup weights and ages was discussed. It was considered that “rafferty rules” applied when a sub-union, without, a third grade competition could hold what was practically a third grade championship cup It was stated that Taupiri had played players well out of the restrictions, apart from the fact that they were juniors. It was not the desire of the speaker to enter a protest over the actual game, but at Taupiri playing for the trophy without having a team suitable for the grade. It was appreciated that Taupiri had its difficulties and that other Subunions should assist it as much as possible, but the conditions under which Cambridge thirds met Taupiri on Saturday were impossible. The meeting was unanimous that there would have to be a change in the order of things. It was decided to write to the Matamata Sub-union, owners of the j cup, 'emphasising that the Taupiri j Sub-union is not eligible at present to play for the Cucksey Cup, under j the rules, and further to advise Mata- ! mata that the Cambridge Sub-union j intends also to draw the attention of I the Waikato Union to the matter.
