In an editorial today the News says: “Maybe we cannot keep out of Europe's troubles. Then the thing for us is to keep out as long as we can and let the European countries spill their own blood for two or /hree years, so that we will not have to stay in so long when we Finally do t?o “That way we will have more authority when the time finally comes to settle the peace terms. It was bad enough that we finally had to get into the World War. but it was a mighty good thing wc did not begin spilling ur blood cop ouslv until Hie last few months of it." The News adds: "The American Navy is a sure guarantee that our standard of living will not slump when tlio rest of Uie world goes to war."
