STAG TROPHY GAMES AGAIN

CITY BEATEN BY PUTARURU The Stag Trophy Rugby competition continues to provide bright games with plenty of surprises and the competition with only a few more matches to go is still very open. On Saturday the biggest surprise wa> the defeat of City, the leaders, by Put arum, who are near the bottom of the ladder. There was little doubt as to which team would win at Putaruru after the game had been in progress 20 minutes, Putaruru completely overwhelming the visitors. In the second half Putaruru's backing up was splendid and the team is liable to cause a few more upsets. Old Boys had a surprisingly good victory over Te Awamutu while Technical Old Boys were hard pressed to beat a depleted Taupiri team. Rovers and Frankton did not play owing to some misunderstanding about grounds. All teams, except Putaruru were disorganised owing to the absence of the best players in Te Aroha with the Waikato team. Waikato gained an overwhelming victory against a team that was nofr in its class. The position of the teams on the championship ladder is now: —
