August is The Minister for Supply and Development announced that to ensure an adequate reserve supply of motor fuel in an emergency the major oil companies have undertaken to increase substantially their storages of petrol and oil in Australia within a very short period and to hoid additional stocks at their own cost. August 18 For more than a week three planes have been searching the coastal waters near Townsville because of reports that strange craft, resembling submarines, had been seen there. The Minister for Defence said in Melbourne that investigations appeared to prove that the reports are groundless. A number of people on different parts of the coast reported having seen a submarine showing lights.
