ENGLISH MUSIC
VERY ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME THE HAMILTON ASSOCIATION The Hamilton Music Students’ Association, whose evenings are always so enjoyable, devoted last night’s programme to English music, with very happy results. There was a large attendance, and the items were much enjoyed. The subject was introduced in stimulating fashion by Mr H. Cook, who gave an informative summary of English music from ancient to modern times. Another feature was a talk by Miss Helen Heywood on her recent tour of the East, with special reference to music in Japan and China. She stated that the Japanese are displaying great interest in Western music. The following programme was presented, each item being much enjoyed:—Two violins and piano, “Golden Sonata” (Purcell), Miss P. Wilkins, Miss M. Wilson and Mrs Wilson; songs, “When Daisies Pied” (Arne) and “Cherry Ripe” (Horn;, Miss M. Forster; llute and clarinet duet, “Lo! Here the Gefitle Lark” (Bishop, and “The Two Little Bullfinches” (Lewis,, Messrs E. The accompanists were Mrs H. Hammond, Mrs E. Quill, Mrs J. Crawford, Miss Ilayes and Mr 11. Cook.
