CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Monday At the monthly meeting of the Matamata Chamber of Commerce the following remits were approved for submission to the annual meeting of the South Auckland Association of country Chambers of Commerce: “That the Government make a survey of all idle lands contiguous to the railways and other main lines of communication with a view to their utilisation for immediate settlement and so assist in reducing the capital charges on these lines without the need for further heavy overhead costs such as would he necessary for settlement schemes in remote districts.” "That in view of the very large annual increase in the burden of hospital levies the attention of the Government he drawn to the urgen’ need for a thorough public inquiry by a competent tribunal into the whole position along the lines of determining what steps should be taken to prevent the abnormal amount of illness which is prevalent in this young country: that the inquiry cover soil mineral content, food values and diet, water supply, living conditions and any other factor pertaining to the health of the people.”
