Bromwich (Australia) defected Hernandez (Mexico), 6 O, 6—O, 6—o. A. Quist (Australia) defeated E. Tapia (Mexico), 6—l, 6—4, 6 2. Hernandez was easily outclassed during the first two sets, but rallied In the third, after which he fought hard In four games, which, however, he lost after protracted deuces. He was a tired man when the match was finished. Concern Regarding Quist Quist's physical condition was apparently a matter of some concern, and the whole squad'left the country club for Chapultepeo still not knowing whether he could play, Ilopinan intending to give him a light work out before deriding. There had been a drizzle in the early
morning, but the courts dried out. making play possible. Hopman ordered a physican to examine Quist at lunch-time, after which he announced that he would play.
