THE CENTENNIAL CAMP At a meeting or the Guide Centennial Camp Committee, recently held in Wellington. reports or progress in all departments or the camp were submitted for consideration and discussion, the following members of the camp staff being present.-'The Chief Commissioner for Now Zealand, and Chairman or the Committee, Miss Ruth Herrick (Napier, Hawke’s Ray.; Camp Commandant. Miss Mona Burgln (Auckland); Quartermaster, Miss Elsie Grav (Nelson.); Equipment, Miss Joyce Duthie (Wellington); Transport, Miss Constance Morice (Wellington); Post office. Mrs R. s. Melnties (Wellington); Entertainment, Miss Jloby (lla>tings, Hawke's Bay.-, Miss Jane Orrord (Geraldine), Miss p. Robertson (Auckland); Canteen, Miss olive Mcllraith (Christchurch); Publicity, Mrs Martin Tweed (Wellington;; Finance, Mrs Adam Bell, lion, treasurer to the Dominion Executive 'Hastings), and Miss M. lies, General Secretary or the Girl Guides’ association. Miss Herrick reported that the camp site at Tauherenikau racecourse (Wairarapai had been inspected by the Camp Commandant. Miss Burgln, Miss Duthie, and herself, as well as by other members or the camp stall', and all were well satisfied with the site, which combines all the practical and necessary conditions Tor a Guide camp, with the equally necessary attractions of good surroundings. In discussing the numbers or Guides in camp, and how this number would be made up, Miss Burgin stated that the camp would be divided up into 21 groups, including the staff. Each group would consist of

20 Guides and Tour Guiders, every group having its own Group Commandant, who would be a licensed camper, and there would be a quartermaster to every group. The Ranger Group would consist or 30, with a Maori group of 30. The committee regretted that tne number in camp was limited to 600, but the lack of licensed campers made it impossible to extend the number. The camp would be organised and stuffed entirely by the Commissioners and Guiders of the New Zealand Girl Guides’ Association, and the happiness and well-being or all, along with the smooth-running of the administration or the camp, would be considered before individual interests.

Each province in New Zealand has al- i ready been allotted a certain number or j Guides, Rangers ami Lone Guides for the i camp. The qualifications necessary for j Guides and Rangers having already appeared in the press, and all provincial headquarters have received their instructions to the effect that every Guide com- i puny chooses its own representatives by j voting. Overseas Contingents Qualifications, in the case or Maori I Guides would be waived. Official visitors 1 from oversea will include England (2), ill. Australia (6). Rarotonga uD. Fiji (6i, while replies from other countries : aie being awaited. L'n-qiecilled numbers of Austral'.Hii Guides and Guiders will be ' coming from New South Wales, Victoria, j Queen-land and South Australia, who will come fully equipped for a tour or the Dominion, but will spend four or five days near the camp. The Featherston and Grey town Schools will be placed at the disposal of these visitors. Miss Duthie reported that a list or the necessary camp equipment had been forwarded to each of tlie group commandants, special arrangements would be made for the. freight on equipment. The hospital j tent and medical supplies would be dealt with by the camp doctor, Dr. Moana (low, ‘ who would be in charge of the health of the Guides, assisted by two nurses, while provisional dates for entertainments were submitted to the committee, and it was decided that the March Past would be hold on Tuesday. January 23. Her excellency the Viscountess Galway is to take the salute in the absence or the GovernorGeneral. Guides in camp would visit the exhibition on January 19, there being special campfires on the evenings of January 23 and 25. Group campfires and hikes would also be held, the Rangers holding an all- ; night hike on January 24. in connection with the Bledisloe Cup competition lor , Rangers. There would be a Guides Own Service on Sunday, January 21. and visitors’ day would be January 23. from 2.30 t" r» p.m. Rrownie revels would also be held during an arternoon. Tlie Tee for the Centennial Camp will be two guineas. This includes an excursion (one to the exhibiwould "be available on the railways, and i other transport, and would be available I for 21 days. In discussing the distribution of food to the camp, it was stated that this would be done through the chief I quartermaster. Miss Gray, to the quartermaster of each group. Quartermasters would make out their own menus for ! meals, but Miss Gray would be prepared to advise on the preparation of new menus ; to add variety to the meals. The camp committee meeting concluded with a general discussion on canteen supplies. the camp post office, newspaper, transport and the issuing of the camp j booklet and posters.
