THE ADAPTABLE JACKET
The jacket, like the cigarette, fulfils all needs. Smokers excuse the i latter because they are happy, or be- j cause they are troubled; because they • are tired or because they are feeling grand. Women wear the former because they are going out or staying in, because it matches the skirt or contrasts with it, because it is gay over dark slacks or demure over floral ! skirts. Several jackets for one skirt sim- j plifv the problem of the wardrobe by I day. For evening wear the jacket . may be said to represent the upper ! half of the long-fitting coat of last j year.
