CLEARING SALES AT KIWITAHI New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows on the sale held at Kiwitahi on Tuesday on behalf of Mr P. McYerry: The sale was attended by the largest gathering of buyers seen at any clearing sale in the Waikate for many years, people from all parts of the district being present and from as far afield as North Auckland. The sale was conducted by the Loan and Mercantile Agency, in conjunction with Messrs. Dalgety & Co., Ltd. Mr McYerry was disposing of all his stock, implements, farm sundries and various household effects. The implements sold well, a large number of buyers being interested and bidding very briskly. Prices of the principal lots were: Topdresser, £29; Bamford mower, £27; hay rake, £9 10s; double-furrow plough, £9 10s; disc harrow, £6 10s; tine harrow, £4 15s; scarifier, £2 ss; wool press, £l9 10s; separator, £5 10s; saddles, £3 15s and £4. Fowls were also in keen demand, White Leghorn pullets making 9s 6d each, and hens 7s Gd. Horses were rather dull of sale, bidding being slow except for the sevenyear hay mare, which sold for £il 10s. The offering of sheep (approximately 2200) elicited brisk competition. Practically the whole offering changed hands, four and six-tooth ewes making £1 to £1 -is *d; twotooth ewes, £1 0s 3d; about GSO fiveyear ewes, though not in particularly good condition, 15s 3d. Heifers, although rather backward, sold well, realising up to £9, the average being a little over £7. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having conducted a clearing sale at Kiwitahi on behalf of the estate of the late E. H. Milliken. The stock, which consisted mainly of young Jersey and Jersey cross cows, came forward in good condition and buyers responded with spirited bidding, an average of £9 10s resulting. Good two-year Jersey heifers were in demand and realised satisfactory prices. Baled hay sold at 3s 7d to 4s 7d a bale and sundries sold well. MATAMATA REALISATIONS Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report on their fortnightly Matamata sale on Wednesday as follows: A small yarding of both cattle and sheep forward to a full bench of buyers. Competition for light-weight beef was particularly keen, prices realised being somewhat better than at recent sales. A pen of 23 well-grown Polled Angus weaner steers, on account of Mr F. J. Cole, Waharoa, met with spirited competition and sold at £2 18s; a pen of 20 Polled Angus weaner heifers from the same vendor realised £2 2s. Sheep: Heavy prime wethers, £i 3s' Jsd: fat lambs, 14s to 17s Id. Cattle; Prime light-weight Polled Angus heifers, £5 Is to £5 10s; prime Jersey heifers, £4 2s to £s;fat Jersey cows. £4 12s to £5 11s; heavy boners £3 to £3 18s, medium £1 18s to £2 19s, light 17s 6d to £1 15s. Pigs: A small yarding of fat pigs came forward with a very heavy yarding of stores. All classes sold at full late rates. CATTLE AT TE KAUWHATA Mesrs. G. W. Vercoe & Co., Ltd., report having held their usual fortnightly stock sale at Te Kauwhata on Monday, when a full entry of cattle came forward. Competition on all classes was keen throughout and a total clearance was effected at full late rates. Quotations. —Heavy fat Jersey cows, £6 10s to £7 ss; well-finished med-ium-weights, £6 to £6 7s 6d others, £5 10s to £5 15s; light, to £5 ss; medium-weight fat Jersey heifers, £5 15s to £6 10s; lighter, to £5 10s; forward-conditioned Shorthorn and Friesian cows, to £4 10s; store conditioned, to £4. The advertised entry of 63 Red Polled cows ex Messrs. T. C. and H. W. Wilson, of Waimai, came forward in low condition and sold at an average of £3 7s. Hamilton, report as follows on Mr J, Cross’ sale held at Karapiro, Cambridge, on Wednesday; The cattle came forward in good condition considering that the country they came off is hard and hilly and not very suitable for dairying. There was a large attendance and bidding was brisk throughout, especially for the better class cattle. The whole herd was disposed of at satisfactory prices. Good quality cows, due JulyAugust, realised up to £lO 10s; others, £9 to £9 10s; later calvers. £7 to £8 15s; empty cows, to £4 10s; in-calf Jersey heifers, early calvers, £8; others, £6 10s to £7 12s Gd: yearling heifers, £2 ss. TE AWAMUTU CLEARING Messrs Newton King, Limited, report having held a very successful clearing sale on behalf of Mr J. Fraser, Bond's Road, Te Awamutu. The herd of 90 cows came forward in good order, no calving dates or butterfat returns being available. Despite this, competition was keen, the satisfactory average of £8 12s resulting over all. Early calving cows sold freely from £lO to £ll 10s; older cows, £9 to £10; later cows, £7 10s to £8 10s. The 2-year heifers, which were of splendid quality, sold freely to £ll, the whole line averaging £9 10s. A line of W.F. wether hoggets realised 14s. Keen interest was evinced in the horses, a 4-year gelding bringing £2G, and a 9-year gelding £25. The sows sold from £3 5s to £4 ss. Implements and sundries sold at late rates. HIKUTAIA SALE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report at their Hikutaia stock sale yesterday a small yarding of cattle, with prices realised fully on a par with other recent sales, a total clearance resulting. Quotations: Light fat Jersey-cross cows, £3 4s to £4 4s; heavy boner cows, £2 Is to £2 17s; cull cows, to 20s. SHIPMENTS OF MEAT TO THE UNITED KINGDOM WELLINGTON, Friday The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is advised by cable from its London office that the shipments from Australia, South America, and South Africa to the United Kingdom during the first half of June, were as follows ; Australia: Carcases mutton, 4084; carcases lamb, 19,549; quarters beef (frozen), 16,632; quarters beef (chilled), 9262. South America: Carcases Vnutton, 56,693; carcases lamb, 243,162; quarters beef (frozen), 2173; quarters beef (chilled), 268,431. Included'in the figures are 131,030 carcases of lamb and 55,700 carcases of mutton shipped from Patagonia. South Africa (including Southern Rhodesia): Quarters beef (chilled), nil. New Zealand: Carcases mutton, nil; carcases lamb, nil; quarters beef (frozen), nil; quarters beef (chilled), nil.
