IMPROVING SYSTEM ERECTION OF STEEL TOWERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The first of six new steel towers to be erected at the top of Tinakori Hill to improve the aerial system of ZLW, the Government wireless station, was hoisted this morning in 35 minutes without a hitch. A post office official explains tha stage has been reached when it is desired to improve existing services including the radio telephone service, and this is being done, not by increasing the size of the transmitting apparatus but by the adoption of a better aerial system of having six steel towers spread out along the ridge tops. These towers will be at the same level, consequently the masts will vary in length from 120 to 15*5 feet. The old steel tower will eventually be removed.
