CONTROL OF TRAFFIC

TE AWAMUTU PROBLEMS Special to Times) TE AWAMLTr, Wednesday Traffic in Te Awamutu is receiving close attention from the borough officers and the Transport Department and this week an inspection was made with a view to arriving at a solution of the problems arising, particularly in tile vicinity of the traffic, filter at the junction of Sloane, Alexandra and Arawata Streets. it is understood that the Public Works Department will undertake the construction of a permanent traffic inter at an early dale. JTo vision will be made for pedestrian zones leading to ttie litter, and traffic lanes shown so lhat motorists will not be in any doubt as to the course they are to follow at Itiis point. The bus stands are at present in Arawata Street and the stand for buses arriving from Hamilton is very dose to the Sloane Street corner and near the pedestrian crossing. The result is that passing ears proceeding from the 'Hamilton end of Arawata Street do not get a dear view and the pedestrian crossing is a dangerous one. The proposal is to have the bus stands in Alexandra Street. Stricter control of parking will eliminate the danger caused by cars being parked close to the junction and the pedestrian crossings. The parking areas and spaces will be clearly marked as to the method of par'king and the time limit for particular spaces.
