MORE PROTECTION
RIFLE RANGE DEFICIENCY BOROUGH INSPECTOR’S REPORT The need for further protection work to be carried out at the Hamilton Miniature Rifle Club's range in the Canoe Club building, Hamilton East, was stressed in a report at the Borough Council meeting last night from the borough inspector, Mr J. W. Lewis, who stated that he could not recommend the council to allow the club to continue unless the work were carried out. The existing protection was sufficient providing the shot was within the area of the target, but the margin beyond that was far too small. "1 am of the opinion that the protection should be extended at least three feet above and on each side of the present protection work,” said Mr Lewis. “The situation of the target is such that if a shot were more than a foot or so wide it would probably pierce the end of the shed in a direct line with the river path. This would be avoided if the suggested extension were carried out.” On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to raise no objection to the granting of a permit, provided the work as suggested in the inspector's report is carried out.
