HAMILTON ESTIMATES APPROVED
ADDITIONAL REVENUE OF £5016 WORKS PROGRAMME FULLY DETAILED To cover the rising costs of labour and materials, the increased Hospital Board levy, to meet the extra demands for high maintenance standards, and to help the council consolidate its finances the general and special rates for the Hamilton Borough were increased by approximately 9.63 per cent, at a meeting of the council last night when the estimates wore finalised. The increased rates are estimated to return £5016 and a table of the exact increases in all areas was given by the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, in moving the adoption of the recommendations. Last year the Hamilton rates were increased by approximately 9.25 per cent.
The Mayor pointed out that in the Hamiton area the increase in the general and special rates would be 11.3 per cent, while in the Claudelands area the increase would be 11.5 per cent. In the Frankton area the increase would be 10.2 per cent, in Maeroa 7.7 per cent, and in the Richmond area 9.2 per cent. The revenue from the estimates is expected to produce £58,140, or £SOIG more than last year. Rates for the financial year will be struck as follows:
