WIN FOR WELLINGTON MATCH WITH TARANAKI (By Telegraph.—Press Association) HAWERA, Wednesday A crowd of 6000 saw the Wellington Rugby team defeat Taranaki by l i points to 8 at Hawera this afternoon in tile annual show week fixture. Features of the game were weak tackling hy the Taranaki backs and snappy passing by the Wellington hacks. The first score was the result of a try by Wright after receiving the hall from Wales and Tindill. Near the close of the first spell Meuli evened the scores with a penalty goal. The se-cond spell opened with a rush by Wellington, culminating in Vile scoring. Wellington again scored when Thompson made an opening and McCarty touched down. Wellington’s final try was awarded to Wright after Smith had failed to force, Fulton converging. From then onwards Taranaki rallied and had the visitors penned in their own quarter, Smith .scoring and Meuli converting. Included among the spectators were M. E. M. McKenzie, of Wairarapa, All Black sole selector, and Mr F. W. Lucas, of Auckland, a North Island selector.
