FERTILISER STRIKE
AUCKLAND HOLD=UP MEN INTEND TO REMAIN FIRM INFORMAL MEETINGS HELD (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Tuesday The 400 men concerned in the fertiliser workers’ strike held three informal meetings outside their respective works shortly before 8 o’clock this morning, 220 at the Challenge Phosphate Company, Otahuhu, 124 “at Kempthorne Prosser's Drug Company, Lt., Westfield and 56 at the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser company, Ltd., Te Papapa. In the case of the Challenge Company the men called at the works this morning and collected their working clothes for washing. No definite statement was made to the employers. An official of the company said the strike would have serious conse,quences in the industry. If the farmers were unable to obtain supplies of fertiliser in the quantity and at the time needed, they would possibly cancel their orders, and the effects on farms would be serious, resulting in a smaller return from the land. Despite the declared intention of the men not to make comment of any kind to the press, they went as far as expressing their intention of remaining firm in their present attitude.
NO TROUBLE IN SOUTH
