BRITISH EMPIRE
PLANS FOR DEFENCE DEVELOPMENT IN AIR REVOLUTIONARY SCHEME (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received June 27, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, June 26 Sir Kingsley Wood, in opening the annual conference of the Empire Press Union, said the plans of Empire air defence revealed an increase during the next two years in the number of permanent squadrons overseas, including general reconnaissance types, in order to protect vital trade interests. The volunteer reserve training facilities were also being established where Royal Air Force units were already stationed. He added that the rapid development in the speed and range of modern aircraft might well revolutionise Empire defence, in the direction of the reinforcement of any part of it in a matter of hours. This was rapidly becoming a definite possibility. The unification of the Empire’s defence offered great hope for the future. Sir Kingsley expressed satisfaction at the large proportion of Empire raw materials used iu the production of British aircraft.
