RED CROSS ACTIVITY
HAMILTON BRANCH MEETS AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS PLAN A committee meeting of the recently-formed Hamilton branch of the Red Cross Society was held on Thursday evening, when Mr F. W. Course presided over a large attendance. A satisfactory increase in membership during the last few weeks was reported by the secretary, Mrs it. R. \. Challiner. A full discussion on the activities of the society to be adopted by the local branch took place, it was decided to enrol members for tuition in air raid precautions, which will be piven at Hamilton during July at a da'e to be fixed later this rnonLh. The lecturer will he Mr G. T. Paterson, of Auckland. As an example of the world-wide service to humanity which the Red Cross Society gives, an appeal was received for a supply of blankets to be sent to China for the comfort of its wounded troops before the winter commences in that unhappy country later in the year. As 5000 blankets arc asked for as New Zealand’s contribution, it was left to members of the branch to endeavour to help in the matter. It was recalled by the chairman that following the Napier < arthquake in 1931 the Chinese branch of the Red Cross Society subscribed £2OOO for the relief of the New Zealand sufferers in that calamity. Now, therefore, arrived the opportunity for the Dominion to show its appreciation of China’s generosity eight years ago. Any desiring to assist in the appeal were asked to aommunicate with a member of the branch or tho secretary.
