ENGLISH SCOUTS

JAMBOREE CONTINGENT COMING TRIP TO NEW ZEALAND (9y Telegrarn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Preparation for the English contingent to attend the New Zealand Centennial Boy Scout Jamboree at Heretaunga in December are described in a letter received by Commissioner J. R. Cooksey. Wellington. from Lord Hampton. “We are working hard to get a really good contingent for your jamboree,” he writes. “As you can imagine things are not too easy at home just now. Quite apart from the European situation, taxation has gone up all round and conscription may cut out some of the older ones who would otherwise make the journey. However, we shall do our best and will strain every nerve and pocket not to let you down. I was very much struck by your fine contingent and their most attractive camp at the Sydney jamboree last summer.” Lord Hampton added that Mr J. S. Wilson, camp chief at Gilwell, the English headquarters of the scouting movement, was looking forward to representing the Chief Scout, {Lord Baden-Powell. at the New Zealand jamboree. Mr Wilson was second only in importance lo the Chief Scout in the 'movement and would, he thought, be of great value to tlie jamboree, as he had one of the soundest brains in Ihe scout fellowship. Commissioner Cooksey has also received a letter from the Boy Scouts’ Association of Sydney expressing appreciation of the work done by the New Zealand contingent at the Sydney jamboree.
